They may be newer and reasonably tidy, however if theyre mechanically past it or have chassis rot then theyre destined for the scrappy!

Thats the usual reason, they may not be as nice underneath as they are on the top! Usually Arriva and Stagecoach sell on any good condition roadworthy buses and scrap the buses which are beyond repair or not financially feasable to repair.

Hi, I argee with you, what you are saying, I believe it something do with the value of vehicles, also I've noticed Darts Marshall more went scrapped than Darts Plaxton Pointer well selling/buying to new owner not scrapping!!! You can see Arriva Merseyside Darts Marshall all most went scrapped few were sold maybe less than 8 to 10 vehicles.

RE: Stagecoach Chester & Wirral
Although this is just my theory (and not particular to Stagecoach/Chester City Transport!) one reason for Marshall Capital Darts not lasting as well as Plaxton Pointer 2 bodies ones could be the weight of the bodywork.

The Marshall bodywork, as it has a steel frame, weighs significantly more then than the aluminum frames on Plaxton/Alexander bodywork, (same today too if you compare a Halton MCV Evolution with a similar length Enviro200 with ADL bodywork!) so if that weight has been on the chassis for the last 10 years or so, surely that has created a lot more wear on the chassis frame (which is a lightweight chassis anyway) and the components within it that have had to pull that extra weight around since they were built?

Marshall darts are known for their corrosion problems, and tbh are non-standard in the Stagecoach fleet anyway.

The previous MTL Marshall's spent over a year trying to find a buyer, 7601 was on sale at Stafford Bus Centre for months also. I imagine this to be a case of "If it won't sell, shift it ASAP"

Unladen Weight markings;
DartSLF 10.7m/Pointer2 (X2xx ANC) 6833kg
DartSLF 10.7m/Marshall (V6xx DVU) 7190kg
DartSLF 10.7m/ALX200 (X26x OBN) 7280kg.

As you can see, the Marshall is heavier than the Pointer2, but the ALX200 body is heavier still.
Then again, I'm led to believe the ALX200 Darts have more powerful engines to compensate for the weight?

Figures relating to ArrivaNW vehicles, so apologies for going off-topicSmile
