Both only cover parts of a single carriage, but for them to go around carrying tags for as long as they have is ridiculous, especially as 507012 was cleaned almost immediately. I first noticed it on 507005 as far back as 29/09/12 (it no doubt occurred earlier than that) and 508143 is about as long.

Would you prefer them to take it out of service instead?

Graffiti is non-essential maintenance, especially with the current rail head conditions and associated wheelflats.

Even without the ERHC, if the units are due for an exam any time soon, you may as well wait for a month or two rather than take it out of service and reduce fleet.

RE: Merseyrail
It just seems odd that 507012 was cleaned almost immediately while these two have slipped through the net. Letting units run around with graffiti is on for a week is bad enough, but more than seven? Both were graffitied before the railhead conditions came into play, and there have been seven weekends where only a small proportion of the fleet is required where they could have been cleaned. I think travellers might think that it shows the network and the wider area in a bad light.

If you "tweet" Merseyrail, they will usually investigate it.

The only other issue I can think of, other than ERHC is that the weather is too cold (overnight etc), to use the wash plant.

RE: Merseyrail
If the temperature stays above 3c there should be no problem , being honest to date this year there have been about five of those days to date this autumn .

Im also wondering whether the units have been having sander problems or is it just the Network rail Rhtt being worked differently this year .

The sandite paste is a different brand AFAIK.

That said, it has been trialled on other 3rd rail networks on the Southern, who use quite similar units, so unless it it something to do with Merseyrail 507/508s specifically, I would imagine that perhaps the problem lays with lineside vegetation not being cut back enough in the summer, probably due to cutting/reducing the Network Rail night shifts.

I found a good picture of 507022 on the internet. It looks like it has been smashed in, and is only in a 2 car formationHere

First picture I've seen of my namesake. I'm guessing it was taken just after the smash which prompted its demise. The other end car was wrecked and the middle car went up to Strathclyde. It looks like it could be in Birkenhead Central shed, but I'm not sure

RE: Merseyrail
A bit of a daft comment given the state of 507 022, but imho the BR livery really suited

I'm sure the caption reads Llandudno sheds. Please do correct me if I'm wrong. I'm also sure that it said car 64426 was part of a 314 and the other motor car was now the DMS B car of 507004?
