Swapping with 507/8s is not an option unfortunately due to lack of stabling. As more 777s come into service then roughly a corresponding number of 507/8 will have to go for scrap.
About 15 507/8 will be retained for the Southport to Hunts Cross line until the platform and signalling work is complete. This line will be the last to convert to 777
I guess 8 cars will need to be operational for Aintree next year.
It seems capacity is going to be reduced by quite a bit if the three peak 6 cars are removed from the Ormskirk line in the coming weeks.

Does Ormskirk require platform work to accommodate 8 cars, it seems quite tight with an 6 car against the signal at the south end of the station currently.

507024 had its last hurrah yesterday evening on the Ormskirk line. Its last passenger service was the 1916 Liverpool Central - Ormskirk, trailing 508104.

I'll miss both this and 507025. Plenty of good memories riding these and both were still in fine fettle over recent days. Some of the withdrawn units so far looked and sounded particularly run down in their final weeks, 508123 and 508143 being two, but 024 and 025 bow out as good riders. I suppose they all have to go at some stage.

RE: Merseyrail
One more overhaul to be done after 507003 and 507007 which are both in Birkenhead North at the moment, then any unit which reaches its maximum permitted mileage will be going for scrap
