I'd argue an improvement, the X8 wasn't quick by any standard and the X1 provides useful links for the people of Overpool to Cheshire Oaks - a quicker route to Liverpool as it avoids New Ferry/Birkenhead, and not to mention runs 7 days a week which the 2 didn't.

Anybody travelling to Liverpool between Little Sutton and Shore Drive would generally wait for the already overcrowded 1 (or an x8 if it served their stop) rather than catch the long winded 2 via Bebington and Derby Rd. From the times I used it 90% who boarded a 2 along the stretch between Port Sunlight and Charing Cross only went as far as Birkenhead, so the 38 is more than adequate especially given the number of buses serving Liverpool from Charing Cross or the Bus Station.

From what I've seen so far, the X1 carries well.

What has been a bit of a shock to me is the use of Optare Solos on the 22 over the last week, the service can often get very busy, a solo could be a bit of a squeeze on certain journeys! Also noticed the standard livery E200MMC on them on Thursday which was a nice surprise.

Noticed a few confused people with the 1/X1 since the changeover getting them mixed up,would
have been far easier to have kept the X8, i do not know why they had to change it,Drivers are
also struggling with the timings even allowing for the roadworks, and it is one of the slacker times of the year

In all fairness the A41 through Wirral is pretty awful for roadworks at the moment, I've been using the M53 personally just to avoid it.

Does Chester require the double deck buses that they still have? They seem to be allocated to local routes, would it not be best to transfer them to Rock Ferry for the 38 and then the gold deckers can then be used on 1/X1.
