I hadn't realised that MTU was a RollsRoyce subsidiary. I am surprised that they don't make more of that, even though it has no connection with the car business now.

I take that 319424 won't be in service for a couple of months.

Usually a month or more between arrival at Allerton and being in service

Interesting although I'm surprised the Northern Connect Liverpool - Leeds service will only call at Huyton. Also not that surprised TPE are looking into calling Lea Green as opposed to St Helens Junction - as stated the road network is more direct towards this station and it has higher frequency bus services serving it during the daytime but only hourly evenings & Sundays. Surely this could be sorted out by the time of the change. St Helens Junction is now looking very run down in comparison.

No mention of the existing Liverpool-Manchester Airport service, which I had always understood was being withdrawn - if it isn't it seems odd to divert the slows rather than one of the Southport trains running to the Airport.

My understanding is that the stopping service is being merged with the Piccalilly - Airport - Crewe service and people from intermediate stations trying to get to Victoria will have to change onto TPE or the new Northern Connect Chester - Leeds service. It is also my understanding that on the Chat Moss route, the TPE Liverpool - Scarborough service will take the path of the present Airport service.

Indeed Lime St to Airport will continue to Crewe so has to be an EMU service, as a DMU would accelerate too slowly and get in the way of long distance trains.

Northern planned to run Wigan to Bolton to Alderley Edge and Wigan to Bolton to Stalybridge electric trains as DfT required franchise bidders to effectively use overheads where possible. As they didn't plan to obtain bi-modes and there was no requirement for Southport to Bolton to Piccadilly services to continue, the franchise agreement didn't include a Southport to Airport service at the first major recast.
