Having looked at the pictures of the BBC news website, the bridge is well sign posted and has handing chains before the bridge. I think some go into auto pilot mode. They get so used to driving the same routes all the time, they ignore the road signs and forget that someone at the depot wrongly allocated a decker on to a route that should only have single deckers. Obviously in the case of the 100 route it's normally deckers so must have left its normal route. Just looked on Google streetview. There's height barriers before the bridge in both directions saying 3.5m. https://www.google.com/maps/place/Barton...FQAw%3D%3D |

The bustimes website shows it turned right off the booked Barton Road onto Barton Lane for some reason! |

RE: Stagecoach Manchester
The 100 goes straight ahead at that junction, & turns right into Liverpool Road at the next junction, it's not routed to turn onto Barton Lane, i've been on the 100 a few times The driver getting the sack over it will be the least of there worries right now. RE: Stagecoach Manchester
I don't know how someone can make that mistake. Yes a driver can easily take a wrong turn, especially on a long route. However, that turn is obviously wrong if you're driving a lorry or a double decker bus, and someone has decided to spend money there to avoid bridge strikes. What makes it worse is if you look at Streetview from April 2023 the police had blocked off the road, and the bridge is damaged. |
