One benefit of GPS technology is that major bus operators know exactly where their buses are and are able react to serious delays. Whether they have spare buses and drivers is another matter.

I can't speak for rock ferry but Chester rarely has spare buses. They aren't kept in Chester centre either so the next driver will not exactly be likely to get a spare bus. An engineer would need to drop off a spare bus at the interchange so spare buses are only done when absolutely necessary.

Rock ferry is slightly easier as drivers are all back and to the garage for breaks and as the route starts outside the garage, they can respond to incidents much quicker. Much like Chester used to be back when it was at the Rink.

The next thing is how do you react to serious delays at Cheshire Oaks where it can last for about 4 hours , you cant stop all services , that would be a travesty to the passengers you have taken there in the first place.

You can't do much but if you can plan to minimise the effects, it helps. You would need an inspector to be at the oaks to advise passengers of any changes. There is no way you can avoid the oaks traffic. It's how you deal with it that makes the difference.

If you get delayed 20 minutes going around the oaks that is a big delay. If you can remove 2 bus stops (which have alternatives close by) to reduce the delay impact to 10 minutes. It's surely a bit of a no brainer. I'm not saying cancel a whole area. The colliseum has a bus stop and at the back of the cinema they are both close bus stops to cover the oaks bus stops.

At Christmas light switch on the other year, they closed the oaks bus stops and all buses stopped at the back of the cinema only. That was to reduce the delays caused by traffic.

You run a bus that avoids the gridlock also known as Cheshire Oaks and pick up passengers waiting at other stops. Not everyone on the planet wants to go there.
