Is the funding for the open topper not direct from DfT, completely bypassing Merseytravel?

Both Thursday and Friday seen the Chester depot running darts on the X8 during the evening peak. I wasn't able to catch the fleet numbers unfortunately

The Enviro300s are possibly due for inspection so one at a time will be off the road unless one has a fault and is off the road for that reason.
