Yes - but "they" (councils, planners, etc.) think that pedestrianisation is a good idea. Likewise, the same types think that it is a good idea to have plagues of traffic lights at minor road junctions, when it is obvious to most casual observers that lights often cause more traffic problems than they solve. Each time you see a long traffic hold-up, note how many begin at a set of poorly phased traffic lights. Getting rid of the lights in St. Johns Lane would ease a lot of congestion problems around Lime St. & Queen Square. Impose a "no right turn" out of the multi-storey car park, and let the exiting cars wait for gaps in traffic - the only queues would be on the car park exit ramps... |
