Do you remember when the X2 (Liverpool-S'port-Preston) was first introduced? That was in competition with both the Arriva 47/48 (4 buses per hour) and the Liverpool-S'port rail link (4 trains per hour). Despite this, Stagecoach gradually enhanced the service from hourly high-floor single-deckers to brand new Scania Enviro400 double-deckers running on a 30-minute frequency.

Whether people like it or not, all major bus companies these days employ highly paid business graduates who have little initial interest in buses but do know how to develop and grow a business model. It is very rare that Stagecoach's initiatives fail to bear fruit: it only takes time.
