Liverpool City Centre bus re-routing proposals
RE: Liverpool City Centre bus re-routing proposals
If there was ever a misnomer it would be The Liverpool City Centre Connectivity Scheme. In essence these proposals will withdraw bus services from large swathes of the city centre and force passengers - yes that's the word I still use - to walk a considerable distance after alighting from the main hubs, Liverpool One and Queen Square.

Recently, TfL considered closing Oxford Street in London to all bus traffic until it realised that it would simply cause gridlock in other nearby areas. Exactly the same thing will occur in Liverpool city centre. If the powers that be were really serious about reducing congestion and pollution it would introduce a congestion charge for motorists as exists in London and other cities around the world.

The belief that more people would take up cycling and walking is well-meaning but totally erroneous. If these proposals are implemented it will result in an increase in cars and heavily polluting diesel-engined taxis and a further decline in the number of people using buses.
