So, Avon started out on Thursday August 13th 1981. By coincidence, London's Westbourne Park garage, now part of Tower Transit, opened the same week, on Saturday 15th! Maybe Avon Buses could eventually be taken over by Tower Transit??

RE: Avon Buses
In the plausible scenario that I ride both routes 144 & 204 in September, I hope they use different vehicle types!

The ones I saw were operated by MCV Evolutions this morning.

RE: Avon Buses
I was unfortunate enough to travel on the newly extended 17 today from Wallasey Village to Saughall Massie. It is clear that the route will take over from the 106 when this tender runs out. The bus used was a full length single decker. Centaro I think HV02 anyway it spent half the journey around Leasowe half on the kerb! Those roads around the back of the estate in Leasowe are too tight for a full length single decker. It was a major health and safety risk for the public and also the passengers on board. Why didn't Avon think that they may need an Optare Solo or similar. Even the Enviro 200's would struggle? A bizarre situation that needs to be looked at urgently

RE: Avon Buses
Never knew Avon ran Pensby school route 649 as a commercial service now charging school kids £1.20 instead of 80p! Does anyone know if all of their new school routes are commercial?

Avon now run the morning only 613, 618, 649 650, 652, 698 commercially. The 650/652 are really just extra 17 journeys as they follow that route

Back i the day, I remember Merseybus using Atlanteans and Volvo Ailsas on the 23/24 which operated from Liscard to Leasowe Ross Avenue.

Not only Merseybus but the PTE used deckers on the 23/24 through Leasowe estate without any problems, which then had to navigate those side streets in Wallasey which were a tighter squeeze to/from Somerville.
