Just out of interest I have set up an anonymous poll for members to select which party they are voting for/voted for in this year's local elections

The poll will automatically close at midnight on May 8th

Sadly the party i wanted to vote for never put up near me, The only point i hate about the current voting system

Now all bar 1 Council results have been announced its worth pointing out that the Cons have lost more ground than Labour! Seems the Media jumped the gun a couple of days ago! Liberal Dems seem to be making a come back and UKIP are also on the rise as well

The thing is the North is always barring certain areas always going to be a Red Labour zone , the thing is now the Labour protest votes always used to go to the Liberal democrats but now where do they go ?

Will it be UKIP , Conservative , Green Party or any other party like single interest groups .

The only reason the Liberal democrats had a foothold in Liverpool until about 10-15 years ago was because of Derek Hatton and his fellow band of merry men.

I also think all councils should only have one person per ward , voted in every 4 years , instead of 1 person per ward every year for three years standing for 4 years , that sounds like a case of council triplicate form filling.

All results are now in, Cons have lost the most Seats (48) and Lib Dems has made the most gains (45). I have to admit am surprised the Lib Dems have gained so much so soon.

Liberals where always classed as a safe pair of hands at local level.

Local elections are hard to judge for example my local seat is now Conservative in Wigan but its surrounded by Labour and i think it's because a lot of people locally just feel we get mugged by Labour locally but nationally we don't and yet in theory they're the same party

Its perceptions , its like the Liberals Democrat the local councilors got rolled over the coals for what the national Liberal Democrat party did with the conservatives and havent recovered and look like there still struggling even now .

The Lib Dems did not do badly this time around tho, they got Councilors in Knowlsey now as well

According to Arif Ansari, the only change in the north west was at Stockport, where the Council is still hung but Labour have overtaken the LibDems to be the largest party.

This is the first time since 1985 where the opposition has lost Council seats on what was not a General Election year. At least Corbyn refrained from repeating Blair's line that these results could be a perfectly good springboard for victory at the next General Election!
