No improvement today either. Three cars across the board again despite the good weather. They also didn't bother forming any of the Southports up to six cars yesterday afternoon, either. Extremely poor show throughout this weekend.

Oh well just wait and see what merseyrail have in store for us all the weekend of the The Open .

Ellesmere Port service cut down to a one train set up as a shuttle service Ellesmere Port to Hooton on the Thursday and Friday 17/18 July of The Open. The information posters that are out on the stations are very vague with regards the service on the Hooton line on the Saturday 19 July other than to say 4 trains an hour.

Bus service on Sunday 20th July Birkenhead North to New Brighton.

The provision of weekend pairs on this line should be year-round as the loadings easily justify it, or at the very least a lot more than just the summer holiday weekends in July, August and September. The forecast might not be outstanding for today, but it will be sunny and that in itself will see high loadings. They've had years to sort this out but never do, it's simply a disgrace.

30 min service on both the Ellesmere Port and Chester lines on the Saturday ( 6 cars on the Chesters)

To be honest why such a change from what the did on the Thursday and Friday though , other than the fact it saves one unit on the Saturday.

I do wonder how many units they will operate , probably going to need a spare six car on Birkenhead North for the unlikely event that a Hoylake service needs replacing at some point .

RE: Merseyrail
Providing there are no short forming's on any of the days, I believe they will be using 53 trains on the Thursday and Friday. On the Saturday, they would need 57 trains to make the Southport all 6 car's, as well as 30 minute Chester 6 car's. However this almost definitely won't happen so I imagine the Southport line will have several 3 car's in service. On the Sunday, if the Chester's are 3 car's, there should be 44 trains in use. These predictions are all based on there being eight 6 car's (16 trains) in use on the West Kirby line when it is at a 10 minute timetable which I believe was the case in 2006.

RE: Merseyrail
I would be surprised if there is any wiggle room to have more than two or three six cars on the Southport line , if they allocate them correctly they shouldnt follow each other around the network either .

Using 57 units is basically using every available unit and that will not happen , The Open in terms of units is a harder proposition because the event goes on over a longer time period.
