The other thing to consider is that the West Coast bid may well delay the Great Western bid(s). |

The West Coast will just revert to the bottom of the pile now , the plans for refranchising East Coast Great Western will now take precedent , it still could result in no virgin running West Coast as they really havent decided what goes on beyond December 9. |

UPDATE: All rail franchising has now been suspended! Four franchises were due to be renewed next year – Essex Thameside (currently c2c), Greater Western, Thameslink and East Coast, but the letting processes are now suspended. |

This just pushes the process nearer to Election day of 2014 , some even will come up for renewal after the General election in May 2015 |

That's probably true, BUT, as the person in charge at the time, surely she should have known. You would expect a contract involving billions to be personally reviewed. |
