Knew the 365 had gone quickly, didn't realise it was instant, as for 305, well that is before my time. With the 306, I remember Merseybus doing a Kirkby-Ormskirk for a bit, they always used to use the buses with the experimental Dark Green Colours, which at GM was 1955 or 1957.

I know this as I went home from Skelhorne st on Sunday 26 October, remember passengers waiting at the shops opposite black bull only to see the bus veer right towards Fazakerley, no one knew about the new services and routes, mayhem!!

No doubt there was a lot of confused passengers in the weeks that followed on that route, that said there was loads of changes instantly after de-reg and reliability was pretty appaling for a while after.

The first wave of changes after d-reg was end of January 87, as there was a 3 month setting in period, same time Crosville Liverpool depot was closed down after a strike.

I do remember the 345/355 going to Wigan via the 395 from Skem, caught the 355 through to Wigan one Saturday, then caught one of the GM Buses route to St Helens, it wasn't the 320m one of those 6xx routes that served Garswood using the Leopard that was new to LUT.

The only GM Buses route into St Helens that used Leopards at that time I think was the 661 via Golborne and Earlestown, didn't go via Garswood, think it was Shearings that went that way.

No, some changes were instant, where I lived the changed literally straight away, including the afore mentioned 365. I can think of loads of changes, that were straight away.

That was at d-reg itself, the next raft of changes after that could only take place from the end of January 87 onwards.

Been looking at this https://www.flickr.com/photos/dmc1947/84...6/sizes/k/ what strikes me is the Kirkby area number scheme introduced in either 1979 or 80 most of the regular all day routes in the Kirkby area got renumbered 150 to 159 series

150/152 Kirkby Civic Centre-Westvale-Northwood Circular
151 Kirkby Admin-Tower Hill
153 Kirkby Admin-Kirkby Station
154 Central Bus Station-Gilmoss/Northwood
155 Tower Hill-Pier Head
156 Tower Hill-Walton
157 Northwood-Pier Head
158 Southdene-Walton
159 Tower Hill-Broad Lane

Some buses were built with 4 track number blinds incase the PTE added letters to the numbers, preserved Atlantean 1836 is one such bus, the number scheme was withdrawn at d-reg.

Yes those kirkby numbers got changed at about the same time as the VBG - V nationals came as they were mainly used on the Kirkby Circulars so 79/80 would be about right. It was some if not all the T/V East Lancs Atlanteans came with the 4 track number blinds.

The Metrobuses 0019-0023 had 4 track blinds as well, also 0024-0028 Willowbrook Dominators even though the Dominators went to Speke.

Yes, I was thinking that the metrobuses might have had, wouldn't really have known about the dominators
