Greater Manchester Franchising
RE: Greater Manchester Franchising
BREAKING: Greater Manchester takes control of its buses in historic move after Andy Burnham green light
'Transport has held us back', the Mayor says.

'As we start our recovery from Covid it is time to put that right'.

He says a 'significant' amount of work has been undertaken for how the buses can support the region.

He says 'we have done everything properly' and 'following yesterday's failed legal action to stop this legal process' he has made his decision.

He says he has read everything in the report about why change is needed now and the cost of franchising, and the economic benefits.

'I have also considered the views of the public, transport staff and stakeholders about these proposals. Taking all of that into account, I can today announce that after 35 years of deregulation in GM I have decided to bring our buses back under local, public control'.

He says it will be introduced from early 2023.
