Initial Arriva Merseyside network
RE: Initial Arriva Merseyside network
The 17 was also a Arriva North West service.

It has to be said - what a better network it was then with more places served than today and most of it commercial.

What were all the different route variations for the services between St Helens and Newton?

41 was present 141 route, 51 via present 34 route and 61 as present 34A to Earlestown, then via Bradleigh Estate and Park Road North/South to Newton Station (I think the 61A turned short at Bradleigh estate as it was a service previously run by Victoria Travel (small independent whose yard was on Wargrave Road by the rail bridge)).

I also remember South Lancs having a go on the Newton corridor with the dark green and cream minibuses they had from their short lived Chester services.

Thanks. Yeah I remember the 41, moved to the area a few months before Arriva withdrew and Timeline took over the 141 contract. Also the X4, did this go via the M62 and if so what route did it take from town to the motorway

The original Arriva route was from St Helens via Clock Face, Penketh, Warrington, Birchwood, then onto the M62 straight to the Trafford Centre. The service came to St Helens depot after Warrington closed and was reduced to Saturdays only and rerouted via Parr, Newton and I think it also took a slower route at the Trafford Centre end completely killing what was a very good and judging from the loadings, profitable route.
