Stage and screen star Phyllida Law, the mother of fellow actresses Dame Emma and Sophie Thompson, has died at the age of 94. Law appeared on screen alongside her daughters several times throughout a long and varied career, including in the 1996 adaptation of Jane Austen's Emma, starring Gwyneth Paltrow. Law played Mrs Bates while Sophie played her daughter Miss Bates. She also acted with Dame Emma in 1992's Peter's Friends, directed by her then-son-in-law Sir Kenneth Branagh. They combined on screen again the following year in Sir Kenneth's adaptation of William Shakespeare's Much Ado About Nothing. And they played a mother and daughter in Alan Rickman's directorial debut, The Winter Guest, in 1997. Later in life, Law provided the voice of Mrs Partridge in Dame Emma's 2005 film Nanny McPhee, which her eldest daughter wrote and starred in.

Long-time ZZ Top drummer Frank Beard has died aged 77. ZZ Top was founded in 1969 and played their first live concert the following year. Together they released 15 studio and four live albums, with hit singles like Gimme All Your Lovin', Sleeping Bag, and Viva Las Vegas.

English actor Tim Curry, best known for playing the outlandish Frank-N-Furter in film musical The Rocky Horror Picture Show, has died at the age of 80. He first played the role on stage before the film version, which was released in 1975 and has remained a cult favourite. The actor also played fearsome clown Pennywise in the 1990 TV version of Stephen King's It, and was Long John Silver in 1996's Muppet Treasure Island. His other films included Annie, The Hunt for Red October, Home Alone 2, Scary Movie 2 and he was nominated for three Tony Awards on Broadway.
