I take it you missed/forgot that prior to the Direct Award agreement being granted for the previous TPE franchise, Chiltern were looking for more diesel multiple units and had years left on their franchise agreement. TPE had 9 x Porterbrook 170s not secured on long term lease and were unlikely to be signed on long term lease (DfT said Manchester-York electrification would be completed by the end of 2018.) Porterbrook agreed to lease those 170s to Chiltern from April last year but some of them were leased back as Chiltern didn't need them all straight away.

There is one way to do a return journey from this.

There is Blackpool north-Liverpool Lime street service which departs from Blackpool at 1803 and arriving at Liverpool at 1929 (service ID is 2F65). This service stops at Preston at 1830. I propose that this service should be started from Preston at 1832 and arriving at Liverpool at 1929. Here's the reason why.

The new Liverpool Lime Street-Preston service, from Monday, departs from Liverpool at 1717 and arrives Preston at 1830. I suggest that this service forms a return journey by departing from Preston at 1832 and arriving at Liverpool at 1929.

Two things, what's wrong with leaving the existing Blackpool-Liverpool service at 1803 ex Blackpool as it is and leaving the 319 that leaves Liverpool at 1717 doing what it does now and return on the 1930 ex Preston, and secondly if your idea was followed how do you propose to supply Allerton depot with that DMU it now receives when the 1803 Blackpool-Liverpool arrives at Liverpool and then goes to Allerton depot?.

First, what is the formation of the Blackpool-Liverpool service leaving at 1803 and secondly what is the formation of the Wigan north Western-Liverpool service leaving at 1903?

If the existing Blackpool-Liverpool service (2F65) leaving 1803 is to be started at Preston leaving 1832, then this news service from Preston leaving at 1832 can be run by a 319 which has previously formed the Liverpool-Preston service (2N88). Here's the diagram

5F88 Allerton Deport (1646) to Liverpool Lime Street (1703)
2N88 Liverpool Lime Street (1717) to Preston (1830)
xxxx Preston (1832) to Liverpool Lime Street (1929) (new return journey)

This means that the 156, which was covering the Blackpool-Liverpool service leaving 1803, can be cascaded somewhere.

The Wigan North Western to Liverpool service (2F69) leaving at 1903 is formed of 150 as you said. I suggest that this service should be formed of four coaches for example 150 and 156. This service will form the 2009 service from Liverpool to Allerton Depot (5F37). Then, Allerton depot will be supplied with this pair of DMUs.

So where do you suppose the extra unit that works the 1903 Wigan-Lime St appears from?.

Plus why scrap the only through Blackpool - Liverpool service. 1803 is time fair useful for coming back from a day out in Blackpool.
