The fact is people want to use Queen Square. Rerouting certain routes could lose potential passengers. Remember Stagecoach Magic Bus 14 used to drop and pick up at Elliott Street. But whilst people may have got it into town very very few people got it back out of town! The old gyratory whilst not the safest of places was big enough for all the buses and there were no hold ups in traffic. Just look at any old bus videos of the gyratory in the early 90's. Buses of every colour everywhere mixed with all the cars etc and no traffic jams! Why should people be forced to travel further to Liverpool One to get the bus home when Queen Square is so central. Might be better to demolish both bus stations and create a brand new one. And how many times have operators moved buses out of Liverpool One to save costs. The time it takes to get from Liverpool One to Queen Square is ridiculous and in most cases carry fresh air. Most buses start picking up from James Street and Victoria Street (Business areas) The land Liverpool One takes up is quite large and I would say it is bigger than the old Pier head which had a lot more bays for parking and picking up. Redesign Liverpool One as a proper bus station and will double as a parking area. In this day and age bus drivers are still quite capable of reversing off a bay (Health & Safety police take note). |

RE: Queen Square Bus Station
There is many bus stations that I know of that utilise backing up to name a few High Wycombe , Manchester International Airport and Preston. It seems like Merseytravel when they designed there bus stations they didn't want that type of Bus Station. |

Yes - but "they" (councils, planners, etc.) think that pedestrianisation is a good idea. Likewise, the same types think that it is a good idea to have plagues of traffic lights at minor road junctions, when it is obvious to most casual observers that lights often cause more traffic problems than they solve. Each time you see a long traffic hold-up, note how many begin at a set of poorly phased traffic lights. Getting rid of the lights in St. Johns Lane would ease a lot of congestion problems around Lime St. & Queen Square. Impose a "no right turn" out of the multi-storey car park, and let the exiting cars wait for gaps in traffic - the only queues would be on the car park exit ramps... |

RE: Queen Square Bus Station
And come on where would the cars park in Liverpool , i know there would be a big increase in illegally parked cars , you aint going to stop people bringing cars into the city centre . No the problem with Queen Square is the size of the old area and against the size of the new area which was always cause a bit of a headache . |

The whole thing is historic town planning gone wrong,Car Parks in the wrong places for ease of traffic flow and a Bus Station that is too small for purpose, little can now be done about any of this as i can`t see the whole area being flattened and rebuilt, that`s a non starter, all that can be done is to cut the number of Buses using Queen Square, there is no room to expand it in any form. |

RE: Queen Square Bus Station
If you cut the number of buses using QS it will only form problems elsewhere, the way the city centre is now there is probably little that can really be done. |
