RE: Arriva North West - Winsford Depot
Apologies that this info is a bit late. I saw 4027,4156,4177 and 4180 on the long 84s yesterday. Did not see the other two workings. However 4156 was broken down at Clutton, between Tarvin and Tarporley, around 1430, Crewe bound. It was causing considerable congestion having come to a halt within double white lines. It had gone by 1700 when I came back from Chester. |

Just wondering if 4170 will be a runner tomorrow and if so will it be on the 84's? Thanks again for any help here. |

I saw 4170 and 4175 in Nantwich this morning at 1025 both on 84 longs. I know this is no indication whatsoever as to whether it will be out tomorrow but there must be a chance. Incidentally the interurban paint job on these London Presidents is absolutely superb - they were glinting in the sun this morning and both were very, very clean. Congrats to Winsford staff. And they were busy - long may deckers live on the 84! |

BHA I echo your comments exactly, the presidents look the mutts nuts, very clean inside & out & the livery looks superb. Also i'd personally like to say a massive thanks to the drivers, despite the roadworks around chester city centre they've really tried hard to keep to timetables although ATM they must be going spare with all the traffic around chester etc etc. Heard off a macc driver mon morning that apparently in the new yr, 4489/90/91 will be given full refurbs. This will include leather seating & WI-FI being fitted. Also told it'll only be certain drivers on the 38s & they'll have a new smarter uniform & supposedly more customer service training. Copey you know if this is true & also what new stock will be sought for the 84s, presume it'll be single deckers poss? |

I have a feeling this 38 upgrade will be the same thing Arriva Yorkshire did with one of their routes, "Arriva MAX"..If there is any truth in this, Will Arriva take on the 38 Lates and Sundays? Bit of a downgrade from a Suped up Gemini to a dirty Solo if they don't! |

RE: Arriva North West - Winsford Depot
Doubt it very much fella, IIRC reasons a macc driver told me arriva pulled out of doing the lates & sun service because it wasn't making them much money. Lates were same reason I think, can't remember if D&G run the 38s on a commercial basis so they don't get much in way of funding for it off the council. Also after absence for a few days having been relegated to 29s, 4031 was noted yesterday (fri) on the 84 longs again. Seems to be performing well & so far we've not had too many failures just 4143 few days bk which i'm guessing was overheating issues though not 100% on this. |

The evening services are run by GHA on tender and I am sure their price will have been very keen to say the least. They've only just taken the contract over so presumably it won't come up for renewal soon anyway, but GHA's cost base will undoubtedly be much lower than Arriva's - and D&G would no doubt also be lurking if it was to be renewed, and again they will have lower overheads. D&G operate the Sunday service commercially, and while they've been doing it for a while indicating it must thus turn some kind of profit, I doubt it's a huge earner. A 'bus war' on the 38s on a Sunday is completely inconceivable, suggesting the status quo will remain for the forseeable future. The whole thing is moot anyway until the suggested upgrade of Arriva's three VDLs on the 38s is confirmed or otherwise. I would be surprised if they rush to refurbish buses which are less than three years old and have hardly been overworked compared to the others at Speke. |
