TransPennine Express
RE: First Transpennine Express
A recent comment from on high was that units replaced by Class 319s would not necessarily remain with Northern. This comment would now make sense. Although only six Class 319s (319362/63/65/80/82/83 are the likely ones) are due in June others will follow once the Class 387s enter service on Thameslink. My thoughts are that six Class 156 would be released to transfer from Allerton to Neville Hill replace Class 158s for TPE service.

Have plans changed, because I'm sure I read that only three 319s were coming north for the foreseeable future, with the other three displaced examples staying on at Hornsey as cover?

If you're right and only 3 are coming up by December, Northern aren't going to be able to run much of a service with them - it needs 4 units just to run the 30 min Lime St - Wigan service at present and then you've got the Manchesters on top of that!

I understand that further 319s will not be released until at least early 2016 when the 700s start to enter service. The 387s will only facilitate the return of 377s to Southern for further strengthening down there. So, it looks like just three 319s to Northern for the next couple of years.

There are suggestions now that the FTPE 170s could be sub-leased back to them once they are obtained by Chiltern, giving some time for permanent replacements to be sought.

RE: First Transpennine Express
Out of interest, does anyone know why the 7.15 Liv - Scar had it's stop at Irlam removed, then reinstated?

It's a health and safety issue regarding the six car working and platform lengths.. When a train is too long to fit on a platform there are local working arrangements in place for safe operation of the train doors by the guard. An issue arose with the 0715 ex Liv which is booked 2 x 185 which I believe has now been resolved by a new method of working.

RE: First Transpennine Express
Why is there an Irlam stop in the 0715 Liverpool - Scarborough service .

Is it a franchise requirement to stop at this location , or is it a local agreement that has made it all the way through from pre privatisation.

I do not know the answer to your question but the I travelled to Sheffield on a regular basis between 1972 and 1976 using the 0719?? LIV-MAN. This train stopped at both Hunts Cross and Irlam so I suppose that you could say that the stop was historical.

RE: First Transpennine Express
Today is the start of the new timetable for Trans-Pennine .

Under normal circumstances today would have seen Liverpool - Newcastle services start via Chat Moss , but due to ongoing engineering work in the Huyton area these services are today starting from Manchester Victoria.

The service will depart from Liverpool Lime Street at 12 minutes past the hour with the exception of the last service of the day at 1912 to Newcastle via Manchester Victoria , the 2022 operates via the Cheshire Lines to Manchester Piccadilly then onwards to Newcastle.

Also reportedly no more 185s on MIA-GLC/EDB.
