I have travelled on this fleet many times both when it was based at LS and more recently Bootle and I have NEVER known the saloon heaters to be switched on. Having said that, the cab heater seems to be so effective that the drivers are often seen driving in short-sleeved shirts even though the outside temperature may be hovering at freezing point. It will be interesting to see if there are any complaints from train commuters regarding the lack of heating on these vehicles. Slightly off subject, do the refurbished Sapphire Enviro400 at Wrexham have effective saloon heaters? |

I am used to travelling on the Enviro400's on 60/61 every day, can't really complain about them being cold, certainly never noticed them being particularly cold. |

RE: Merseyrail Rail Replacement Buses
The heating problem with the Enviro 400's is a big problem on the upper deck as due to the design, there is literally holes in the floor which lead to the outside of the bus designed to flush water (or any other fluid that might be present on the floor of the upper deck seating area) from the vehicle. It lets fluid out, it lets the cold in. |

I rode on them regularly during their time at Birkenhead and I don't think I even once had a warm upper deck in all their time there. Since the transfer to Bootle, there has been a slight improvement in upper deck heat, but several are still cold. The heating problem is chronic on these buses, particularly upstairs, and as Barney says, I don't envy the Southport line passengers much today. As for 4420, the post refers to Saturday's allocations, not today's. 4000 probably was in use too as it's parked in Liverline today from photos on Flickr.
