RE: Mayfield Manchester should be saved?
There was talk at one time of restoring Manchester Mayfield to provide Manchester Piccadilly some well needed extra platform space , but it seemed to go very quiet .

Think the talk was before everybody got on the Manchester Hub bandwagon.

Yet another ill informed petition.

Just because its there, does not mean its the best thing. There is no economic case to reopen the station.

*There is no economic case to reopen the station*

i think thats wrong, you look at how busy manchester pic is these days, you got trains waiting just for a platform to become free, the reason i brought this petition onto the forum (its not my petition before anyone asks) is becuase i think there is a demand for that station to re-open,

looking on wiki theres 3 different plans in mind for that station one of witch is to see that station reopened.

Just because Piccadilly is busy (and I don't deny that), it doesn't mean that opening is the answer.

What about all the track upgrades that would have to happen? Have you seen the structural engineers reports?

This though is an issue at many terminal stations across the country and certainly not limited to Manchester Piccadilly. It happens regularly at Glasgow Central, Liverpool Lime Street and London Euston, three other stations I commonly use. The issue is particularly significant at Glasgow Central, where the local suburban trains regularly queue over the River Clyde for several minutes awaiting a platform; for me, it's much more of a problem here than in Manchester.

i still think if they opened mayfield it would sort the problem out at picadilly, other stations should also look at sorting that issue out as well, may it be build another platform

The problem that Mayfield would have is that it is remote from the main site at Manchester Piccadilly . What services would you put in that station?

The services to Platform 13/14 and to the new platform 15/16 when built would dissect Mayfield from Piccadilly a potential pain for the signallers .

RE: Mayfield Manchester should be saved?
But you still fail to answer the question of how the tracks & signalling could possibly be altered to connect Mayfield again?
