RE: Merseytravel Timetable Changes
Passenger figures will give some true reflection but I'm sceptical, to say the least.

It's not that I don't think Cumfybus will be able to run the extension, the 70 was simply too small scale for Stagecoach and as has been said, that doesn't mean another operator with lower overheads can't make it work. A similar situation would be that of the 319 which Stagecoach pulled out of as they weren't making enough from it any more (I personally believe that was to the detriment of the route but anyway) yet that's continued with other operators right through to today albeit in a slightly modified format (as we see here with the 139).

Oh, and that's the best way to tell whether it works or not - just like with the new X36 between the airport and Runcorn! Dodgy

RE: Merseytravel Timetable Changes
The 139 is a route most people will not use for end to end service but for point to point on the route the 139 is just a cobbled up combination of routes collected over the years into what it is now .

A bit more like the short lived 39 when it ran via Dunriding Lane and Stafford Road. Interesting to note that the extension appears to be commercial. Just hope it does well and some earlier/later journeys are introduced eventually.

i think it will do very well and will do some well needed damage to other arriva services

A service with a frequency of every 60 min for the through service, with the first through service arriving around 10am the last through service from St Helens departing around 3:15pm doing damage to a service every 6 minutes operating all day i don't think so, you need to think a bit more before you post.
