Merseyrail

RE: Merseyrail
I would personally recommend that people do not travel this Friday/Weekend, and, anybody who does, shouldn't really complain if they become stuck at some point. Almost inevitable. Travel is glamorous only in retrospect. |

RE: Merseyrail
For people who don't have a choice that is a pretty bad attitude to have. Many people who use public transport have no other option. Oh Superman where are you now, when everything's gone wrong somehow, the men of steel, the men of power, are losing control by the hour.

RE: Merseyrail
Merseyrail do have contingency plans CX06EBK the six car option is one of them , it allows a service of some sorts . There is various other contingency plans . Southport - Liverpool Central Liverpool Central - Hunts Cross Sandhills - Kirkby New Brighton - Birkenhead North Are what you call contingency cutbacks to try and get the system moving , the reason for cutting the Southport - Hunts Cross service is you could probably end with all the trains out in the country end of the route . Once again its a game of see what the weather brings us . |

The "other" option is not to make the journey, and postpone it. Take an Annual Leave day, go to the shops a day earlier or later etc... Non-essential journeys should not be undertaken. People have been warned for around a week about this upcoming severe weather. All over news, internet, forums etc. If people still decide to venture out, and end up getting stuck, I have no sympathy with them. It is common sense that you do not go out in a blizzard, especially on the Merseyrail network, known for weather related problems, just to go shopping in Liverpool for a few hours. It will end up with thousands of commuters stuck across 66 stations seriously delayed or stranded. They will blame Merseyrail. What can Merseyrail do? It is the commuters who decided to go to work in blizzard conditions! If you can't afford to take a (paid Annual Leave) day off work, then you probably living beyond your means! Travel is glamorous only in retrospect. |

RE: Merseyrail
Quite an ignorant post on the whole, people can't just take days off because it "might" snow, holidays are hard to come by in many jobs as it is. Merseyrail could actually communicate with passengers well in advance and not just leave it until the last minute as they usually do. Maybe you can take days off when it might snow, but many people just can't afford to do it, it's not "living beyond your means" it's just earning your money in the current tough climate. These sorts of attitudes is exactly what puts people in cars. Oh Superman where are you now, when everything's gone wrong somehow, the men of steel, the men of power, are losing control by the hour.

RE: Merseyrail
My train to ormskirk this morning formed of 507029&508117 was taken out of service at town green before it massively overshot town green station when pulling in and the driver had to come down to the guards cab to reverse it back in to the station then it was taken out of service and sent back to kirkdale problem with the brakes perhaps? |

RE: Merseyrail
Possibly poor brakes, but more likely poor adhesion/exceptional railhead conditions. Usually taken out of service so wheels can be examined for contamination, or an OTDR download. |

The two units in question had been moved outside Birkenhead North TMD by 10.00, presumably for inspection and repair. Noted 507013 back in service today for the first time since overhaul. It still has an RSK tag at one end that seems to have been there for years, and the missing 'M' at one end has not been replaced during overhaul. Poor.

It was 508115 that was partnering 508111 , it was a communication fault between units that was subsequently fixed after doing a recouple at Southport and its return work started from Liverpool Central |
