Route History
RE: Route History
Just to put a foot note to things on the list of routes, despite being joint routes it didn't necessacerily mean that all the operators listed had workings on those services, in some cases yes they did, but on others it mean't that the joint operation was a joint share of revenues.

For example on service 32 Salford and Wigan never operated any journeys and in practice LUT ran them all.
Similarly on service 39 LUT ran all the journeys.

The situation on the 82 is much more interesting the jointness with Bolton was two trolleybuses owned by Bolton Corporation that ran in SLT livery by SLT from Atherton depot and the fact all trolleybuses had to take a fresh set of fares at Four Lane Ends Over Hulton for journeys between there and Bolton with all that section of revenue going to Bolton Corporation all the revenue between Leigh and Four Lane Ends Over Hulton was LUT's although Leigh had working rights, Leigh didn't exercise these till after Trolleybus operation and bought its 6 Dennis Lolines to work its share, although this ended soon aftrer Selnec tookover then in practice LUT ran everything from Atherton on service 82. Also Bolton never ran anything on the 51 Warrington - Bolton but again may have taken the revenue or a share of the revenue between Four Lane Ends, Over Hulton and Bolton.

12 the same between Manchester/Salford and Little Hulton, 13 is now 513, 16 is now 516, 54 is now 658, 57 is now 600, 59 is now 559, 60 is now 360, 82 is now 582, 84 is essentially the 685

There are some differences in the routings, though. 57 ran direct from Golborne to Wigan via Abram & Platt Bridge. 32 now deviates round Castle Hill estate in Hindley, etc.
The Ashton - Wigan section of 600 was formerly Wigan Corporation 2/2A. When I get time, I will list Wigan Corporation routes from the late 1960's.

Other similarities include:
10 is now 100, but rerouted via Trafford Centre.
56 is now part of 156, and extended from Blackbrook to St. Helens.
The Ashton - Billinge section of 55 is covered by 256, but extended to Rainford.

The Leigh - Ashton part of the 55 is now the 600 from Deregulation day in 1986 this came into being before that it was the 555 then from 1985 the 655 from Leigh to Billinge Hospital

RE: Route History
Leigh Corporation Transport routes at January 1964.

Leigh was a joint operator with LUT & other operators on services 5, 16, 18, 26, 37, 39, 46, 47, 48, 50, 51, 52, 54, 55, 57, 58, 82 and 84. For details see the LUT list in the earlier post. Leigh operated most (possibly all) of 46 and 47, but had little (if any) active participation in many of the other joint services.

Leigh is listed as the sole operator of the following:
1. Leigh - Plank Lane.
2. Leigh - Cemetery / Astley (Higher Green)
3. Leigh - Hindley Green
4. Leigh - Tamar / Dangerous Corner.
4B. Leigh - Briar Grove / Abbey Lane.
6. Leigh - Higher Fold.
7. Leigh - New Henry St. Estate.
8. Leigh - Abram (Crankwood Rd.) (infrequent)
9 /9A. Leigh circulars via Holden Rd.
10 Leigh - Leigh Infirmary. (irregular / infrequent)

Jim Stones now operates some of the equivalent routes.

They where known to operate at times on X85's, there was an issue of buses from 1972 on Chat Moss that shows a Wigan Titan PD2 on the X85.

RE: Route History
Widnes Corporation Motor Omnibus Department, as they were called in their July 1970 timetable did not use route numbers, indeed most of their buses could not display route numbers. In the list below, Runcorn refers to Bus Station (Old Town), and Widnes refers to Widnes Town Hall. With several route variants, that makes the network difficult to describe, so I apologise for any errors or omissions. Also, the timetable lists all departures from certain locations, so there may be some duplication in the list.

Runcorn / Widnes - Cronton via Appleton & Black Horse.
Runcorn / Widnes - Farnworth Street or Horns via Peelhouse Lane & Lunts Heath Rd.
Runcorn / Widnes - Bold Heath or Black Horse via Frank St & Dykin Rd.
Widnes - Horns via Fairfield.
Runcorn / Widnes - Horns via Bancroft Rd
Runcorn / Widnes - Rainhill or Whiston Hospital
Runcorn / Widnes - Chorley Lane
Coronation Drive / Deacon Road - Chorley Lane.
Widnes - Hough Green (several variants)
Widnes - Horns circular via Fairfield, Widnes North & Derby Rd.
ditto., in reverse direction to above.
Widnes - Stewards Avenue.

Joint with St. Helens Corporation (only St. Helens Corporation buses could display the route numbers)
35. Widnes - St. Helens via Peelhouse Lane, Black Horse, Sutton Manor, Sutton Leach.
Plus infrequent peak hour variants:
33. Widnes - St. Helens direct via Kingsway, Black Horse, Sutton Manor .
34. Widnes - St. Helens via Everite Works, Sutton Manor
37. Widnes - St. Helens via Everite Works, Sutton Manor, Sutton Leach & St. Helens Junction.

Before the Widnes - Runcorn road bridge was opened, several routes terminated at "Transporter".
