MPTE Premature withdrawals
Looking through some acquired MPTE fleetbooks, seems there is a few gaps in the lists. Does anyone know why any of the vehicles below met an early end.........

1187 XKC814J
1351 DKC351L
1671 HTJ671P
1972 EKA172Y (think this was a collision?)
2017 SKB687G
2022 SKB692G
2050 (I think this may have been before delivery?)

Ta!

RE: MPTE Premature withdrawals
I don't know but wouldnt mind betting that at least one of the deckers was due to arson. How early do you mean, as 1681 was a very early withdrawal from Gillmoss as well, probably around 1982/83 ish as remember seeing this parked in Gillmoss in a totally dilapidated state when I was a child.

Just had a look, 1681 still listed as at GM in the 5th (1985) edition......although could be an error, think I should scan these books and put them on my Flickr, probably be of interest? Also to correct my original post, 1972 is still listed but I do know it had a short life, just curious about it's demise.

RE: MPTE Premature withdrawals
1681 could still potentially have been at Gillmoss in 1985 but I doubt that it was in use and probably there for spares, still even in 1985 it would have been a short life considering most of that batch kept going for about another 10 years after. 1972, not a clue,.

RE: MPTE Premature withdrawals
Didn't 1972 get burnt out shortly after entering service*. I remember travelling on 1973 Garston to Rhyl for 1972 back on there 1st day in service.

* I could be wrong as it was quite a few years ago.

DVLA Vehicle Enquiry on MPTE 1972;

1972 (EKA 172Y) NEW 06-08-1982, DEAD 16-01-1986, N/A ccDIESEL, GREEN, TAX UNKNOWN.

As you can see, it was written-off in early '86, still in Verona Green MPTE paintwork.
Sad end to a decker that didn't even reach its fourth birthdaySad

RE: MPTE Premature withdrawals
I have just checked the one I mentioned 1681, says dead 31/05/1990 - Green, this may have been the dead date but I know it came out of service a long time before that and was probably at Gillmoss for quite some time as a source of spares. I am quite sure that this was not in service at de-reg.

I will have to have a look when I get home as work computer blocks flickr, just to satisfy my curiosity before I get to look, is your picture before or after de-reg. Thanks.
