RE: TransPennine Express
As far as I am aware the Manchester-York service is a fixture, not a diversion, taking advantage of the new platform at Castleford.

There doesn't seem to be any reason for the transfer of the Huddersfield-Leeds service in the Northern track access application, and the main track access application for TPE refers to a seperate 61st amendment, which I cannot trace. My guess is that there will not be enough 185s.

Makes it inconvenient from getting from South Manchester/North Cheshire to Leeds. Just one 'direct' train from Piccadilly to Leeds per hour, so up to an hour's connection time if your local service is only hourly.

It can actually be faster to do Stockport to Sheffield/Meadowhall and then pick up a Leeds train from there. Although, not a permitted route unless you use multiple tickets.

RE: TransPennine Express
Chiltern Railways have signed a lease for the mk5s. It follows them putting out an ITT for mk3 replacement and Beacon Rail putting forward the mk5s as an option.

I think we were told initially 185s being retained and used instead of the loco hauled sets was a temporary measure due to staffing issues and more crews signing 185s. Not the first time modern stock has transferred from the TPE franchise to Chiltern, and left TPE with an inferior option.

Although, a good option for Chiltern, given the almost new trains already exist and they won't need to wait for them to be built and tested.

They will also lease the same class 68 locos (68019-32) that TPE used, as they were specially equipped for Mk 5A stock, thereby handing back 68010-15 to DRS
