Engine failure according to (usual disclaimers) a Bustimes edit.

It was reported on the Arriva NW&W Photography Group back in August that it was withdrawn due to engine failure.

Oh Superman where are you now, when everything's gone wrong somehow, the men of steel, the men of power, are losing control by the hour.

As we all saw coming, Arriva is yet again throwing the 418 up for withdrawal. Another consultation on it's withdrawal, let's see if the outcome is different this time around.

Also of note is the 420 is down to be withdrawn which is a shame albeit I am not surprised.

If you don't mind me asking, what is the 420? I've never seen it

A service that only runs once a day during the morning, goes via the M53.

IIRC there used to be more trips on the 420. I wonder how many there were at its peak.

This website is good for old timetables.

https://www.railwaymedia.co.uk/Timetable...al/n-HknMm

From looking at the timetables it started in 1986 as 9 journeys to Liverpool and 9 journeys back with some of these in the evening too but as far as Greasby only. In 1987 most of these were extended to Newton. Then in 1989 it was extended to West Kirby with a few extra journeys added. More journeys were added in 1990 and since then it has reduced over the years to the 1 journey in 1 direction today.

Thanks - it's interesting to see the timetables and how they have changed over the years.
Interesting that there used to be an X20 too.
Nowadays, there are lots of buses on the 437 and the 407 linking West Kirby and Liverpool, but still a shame that the express runs on the 420 might be coming to an end.
