Someone will have to persuade the ORR first - unlikely if battery power proves feasible.

RE: Merseyrail
The Merseyrail brand reportedly celebrates its 50th anniversary today (03/05) and perhaps in recognition of this the Royal Special pairing of 507001 and 507002 was at work on the Southport line yesterday (02/05). Their diagram finished at Southport so they should be together today (03/05) as well.

I had an enjoyable afternoon chasing them down and managed a few clips. Both units are still in the finest fettle despite nearing 43 years in service.

Quite a big electrical fire occurred at Southport station earlier this evening. According to reports on Facebook 508111 May have been involved

No units involved thankfully. 508111 is on the Wirral Line so definitely couldn't have been involved.

RE: Merseyrail
It was confined to platform 1 which was empty at the time of the pot fire

RE: Merseyrail
So if I understand correctly, it was 1 of the 3rd rail supports that went up was it ?

I never thought they would burn like that

It looks like rainwater caused a pot to flare up and set fire to some rubbish under the steps at the end of platform 1 and the adjacent siding.

RE: Merseyrail
Sounds like a major headache for the staff there because isn't platform 1 also used for services as well as stabling units when they're not in service

RE: Merseyrail
At the moment the service can be accommodated with two platforms.
Anyway platform 1 is back in use now
