RE: Merseyrail
Anyone know what unit number failed today, just after Hamilton Square on way to Liverpool?

New Brighton 6 car train had to assist the broken down Chester train (2C24) to James Street (Platform 2) and then onwards to Birkenhead North depot, I think as a 9 car train, would have been good to see that.

It seems like running time is 50 minutes with the inbuilt recovery in both directions , in the southport direction the recovery time is between Birkdale and Southport.

Has the Southport line ever had a history of Exceptional Railhead Problems , like the Hooton line has had for years now.

The Southport line has always had history of exceptional railhead (now known as reportable!) conditions, its just that there's always been a healthy turnaround at Southport to recover.

Not sure on the failure but the rescue set should have been 507033 and 508143. These were working together on the xx23 departure from New Brighton this morning but had been replaced by 507018 and 508115 later on. 507033 in fact worked ECS to Kirkdale late afternoon.

RE: Merseyrail
It seems both the Ellesmere Port and Chester trains now have to run as 3 cars due to more power supply issues now affecting the Ellesmere Port line as well.

Does anyone know where the other locations is with power issues, besides past Capenhurst towards Chester as previously reported?

This was following a failure of a six car with a double blown MA at Spital earlier in the week.

The Chester issue has been sorted, its Eastham to Spital in both directions. The 3 cars at the moment though are more down to an increasing unit shortage thanks to recent failures. You can actually still run 6 cars through the current restricted areas.

That’s true, there’s no problem with 6 cars but as long as they’re run under E-conditions, where power taken is limited

RE: Merseyrail
I was wondering with regard to the power issues, is it possible that these problems ( as well as being a result of the seasons and possibly the weather ) could be as a result of upgrades for the new trains.

It puzzles me because if the new trains are built to run on 750 volts like the current stock, why are they upgrading the power system because I would have thought a power upgrade would only be necessary if the new trains were built to run on 800 or even 850 volts.
