Stagecoach Manchester
RE: Stagecoach Manchester and Wigan
Something I found out over the weekend was that the original plan for Sharston was for them to get Scania deckers from Barnsley or Stagecoach South Yorkshire but due to Management at Stagecoach Manchester not liking Scanias due to their sluggishness at setting off they ended up with Barnsleys Enviro400s instead which I believe a quite well liked by drivers at Sharston.

Considering Management doesn't like sluggish vehicles makes me wonder why they've still got the MAN Enviro400s in the fleet unless its due to the fact that nobody else in group wants them.

Manchester got half of the very first batch of Scania/Enviro400 back in 2008 with 15444-15455 at Hyde Road, they didn't stay in Manchester very long......

I think its not just that, that is an issue, apart from the batch based at Liverpool which were transferred in second-hand from Stagecoach South, no other ADL Enviro400 bodied Scania's are present at an Urban base within the group. There are obvious reasons why not, ADL Enviro400 integrals are far better at short hop start stop work while Scania N230UD/N270UD's are better at long distance routes where the distance between stops outside towns is much longer and therefore these perform better there and are better at long haul work.

Although in contrast to this fleets outside the group may consider them to be fine for localised work, such as Nottingham City Transport.

Manchester perhaps is not a place to use Scania's as traffic congestion is severe and also there are no long range regular routes of over 20 miles where Scania's can perform at there best.

However Stagecoach Scania's can still be seen in Greater Manchester in Bolton with Stagecoach Merseyside and South Lancs operating from Preston and Chorley on what is a long distance out of area route of greater than 20 miles.

Recently I've seen a few ex stagecoach dennis tridents withALX400 bodywork at various places.

Today spotted 18148 at a primary school in ardwick. Apparently they were donated to various places to be used for community projects.

Not to sure if its a regular working but apparently Daw Banks had a Enviro200 out on 192 this evening, maybe something to do with the fact that there's been a serious RTC which shut part of A6 meaning all 192 were on diversion so maybe the Enviro200 was sent out as a float vehicle to keep the service running.

Interesting working tonight saw Stockport Depot MAN Enviro400 19630 out on loan to Middleton Depot on their 18:27 114 Manchester-Alkrington service and if it stayed out would have also done 19:47 41 Manchester-Middleton service.

This BYD-E400EV was seen on the way to Manchester.

Despite the new livery, it still has orange grabrails on the inside.

At least half of these are now parked up at Wigan, believe they've been allocated fleetnumbers 14001 to 14032.
