Drivers are brought in from other garages to cover these rails but only drivers who have been trained on the use of the mersey tunnels are to take buses through them. All the drivers on the birkenhead - liverpool are the ones who done the slabtrack last time so have all had the sufficient training on the tunnels as buses on the merseyrail contract are running out of birkenhead depot while the ones on the northern rail contract was running out of speke. |

Shouldn't Arriva be thinking about rerouting the 414 to operate via Albion Street to replace the Avon Buses 10/10A, as the 414 follows the same route as the 432 between Liscard and New Brighton. |

Agreed, Merseytravel should fund this section, it’s only a small diversion, so it wouldn’t cost much. Let’s not forget this section had a half hourly service all day, every day with the 10/10A and 118/119. Disgraceful it has no bus at all. Let’s not forget Poulton Road, the 106 is supposed to cover the 408/09 but not exactly a very good provision is it. Still no evening or Sunday service on Poulton Road, no evening service on Liscard Road, and no service at all on Brougham Road. Wallasey hasn’t half suffered in recent times. |

Arriva are a commercial company and will put buses on routes with the most chances of making a profit unfortunately . Unfortunately for the people of Wallasey there will be places where there is no money to be made and hence servoices will be cut to the bone before being withdrawn altogether. QBP is near enough dead in the water on the wirral , i think the extension of the 407 to West Kirby against the 22 and 38 may well see the end of the 471/2 partnership in time. |

I would prefer to call it The Ridley Cuts rather than Beeching for Ridley was the architect of the 1985 Act that resulted in bus deregulation. For those of us with long memories, we were promised a more efficient, streamlined bus service that would would guarantee socially necessary (supported) services for isolated communities. It's been a death by a thousand cuts - especially since 2010 - but it's blindingly obvious to anyone who relies on buses that the bus is close to death. Anyone care to suggest how to resuscitate the patient? |

Totally agree with you but far to late to resuscitate the patient. Far too many powerful lobbies happy to see it die and far too many industry managers BN on a sui code mission on the basis they will simply defect to new paymasters. |

Brian Souter has already said he would walk away from the Tyne and Wear model of reregulation , which would be awkward to implement without one of the biggest public transport groupings. |
