Stagecoach Manchester
RE: Stagecoach Manchester and Wigan
Approximately how many vehicles / drivers do these depots have?
(With apologies to those who slam repetition in threads, in case this has already been mentioned somewhere over the last seven thousand posts).

Is it definitely just Hyde Road involved, or could vehicles from other depots be used as well, say if Ashton drivers were to be bussed to other depots to collect vehicles which they would then run dead to pick up their Ashton routes?

Believe it's around 80-90 buses possibly more. Drivers have been told to sign on at hyde road today instead of Ashton but because of the proximity between depot and Ashton bus station a lot of changeovers take place at the depot so will be a nightmare trying to sort it all from hyde road.
Resources will be an issue but I believe Tameside council were allowed access to their yard so gritters could re-load during the night (it's within stones throw from Ashton depot) so there's the possibility emergency services may allow buses to be taken out and then ran from hyde road. Early days yet and luckily or not luckily the snow has suspended a lot of services so I'm sure that's eased things today.

Apparently all buses removed from Ashton depot and stored on a car park on Ashton moss near to snipe retail park. Presumably for service tomorrow.

Not sure how true this is but I've heard that it could be at least a week before Stagecoach can return to their Ashton Depot, the questions I've got are the following:

1> Its been said the vehicles are being stored on a car park on Ashton Moss, how secure is this Car Park their having to use?

2> How will drivers go about signing on/off duty each day (I've heard it could be at least a week before their allowed back into their depot) considering that the temporary location won't have signing on/off facilities and paying in facilities and is just a location to stable the buses.

3> Am I right in guessing any maintenance will be temporarly done by other Depots maybe Hyde Road?

Andrew from what I've been told there will be staff at the temporary depot/car park until the depot reopens. It's literally somewhere to store the vehicles and for drivers to park and sign on within reasonable distance from Ashton bus station. Presumably taxi buses will run too and from the car throughout the day tomorrow.

Maintiance will be done at other depots until Ashton reopens which as you said could be a good week away. Just to sum it up, parts of the mill are still well alite and burning tonight due to the fact firemen can't get close enough because the Remains are so unsafe.

Certainly interesting times.

The logistics must be a nightmare and some good work on Stagecoach's behalf to make it work so quick. Fueling 90+ buses every night when most large depots barely have enough wiggle room in fueling there own fleets overnight, having plans and operations in place for drivers signing on/off and paying in. Passing the scheduled Maintanance (28 day inspections) onto other depots when with a fleet that size Ashton must do around 5/6 a day. With Stockport, Hyde Road and Middleton all roughly 20 minutes each way staff must be working a good 24 hour operation to keep it running.

Been told that the depot should have opened this afternoon (Monday) as demolition work is now well under way. Although Clarence street is closed to traffic they are apparently letting buses in and out of the depot.

Had 1 of the enviro 400 hybrid deckers the other day on the 42 into stockport.

Must say very pleasurable experience, I really love the livery & the green & yellow interiors are much nicer than the standard enviros.

However as far as pares wood the route up oxford road etc & along the university corridor is wrecked. Some bloody massive potholes which can't be avoided even by the most skillful driver.
