Speaking of 203, Phil's favourite route was beset by delays again yesterday due roadworks/temporary lights in Reddish, delays of upto about 15mins at one point were being reported by twitter.

Ferrymill's Volvo B7 eclipse FM30 is also now at Middleton, brought in to cover a shortage of buses.

It's ferryhill not ferrymill

Surly the B7 is there subsidising for a vehicle away for body repairs. Carnt see they have hired in buses because of a shortage when they plenty of vehicles at Wigan in reserve?

It's definitely Ferrymill of Glasgow.... Only one bus away for RTA damage at the minute. The B7 is an operational extra due to some unfortunately timed breakdowns

So in recent months they have cascaded and sold various buses, yes some that were past there best perhaps but others that wernt too bad only to now be forced to hire buses in because of a shortage.

It's all to do with the politics behind such a large company.... The reserve buses rarely come out of reserve, usually there out of MOT, and if not they require servicing before entering service, the. If a major failure was to occur, eg engine siezing, it's wasting money on a temporary bus, where as if a hire bus was to breakdown then a new bus is supplied fairly quickly. All just politics.

The reason that Stagecoach use Ferryhill Motors loaned buses is quite simply they aren't paying for them.

If a bus suffers a mechanical problem covered by the warranty, the bus will be sent back to the manufacturer and a loan bus is provided to them (it happens with other operators too - Arriva had a loaned Wrightbus Streetlight whilst one of their Streetlight EV's was sent back to Wrightbus for repair). If a bus has been involved in an RTA where the driver wasn't at fault, the cost of the loan comes from the other party, alongside the repair bill.

Ferryhill are in charge of MOT and Insurance of their vehicles, which is something stagecoach won't have to pay by taking buses out of reserve. The only cost to Stagecoach is fuel (and possibly minor maintenance such as a smashed window whilst in their care).
