On the one hand, I take the point that it's nice to be able to tell at a glance whether a service is tendered or commercial. Conversely, I think this is far outweighed by the annoyance of identical journeys having a different number depending on whether they're commercial or subsidised. It clutters up bus maps, and makes the sorting of services into lists needlessly tricky - sometimes one finds (e.g.) 161 next to 61, where it logically belongs; sometimes in the middle of the 1xx where it numerically belongs! If the route is nearly but not quite the same, and needs differentiating, then I think a suffix letter is preferable (perhaps M for Merseytravel?) which at least solves the sorting issue if not the proliferation one. On a similar note (and even, by coincidence, on topic since this week!), is there any significance to the choice of the number 901 for the Leasowe/Moreton local service? I've often wondered about it, all alone in a series by itself! (Although I vaguely remember there was a 902 somewhere in the Upton vicinity for a while?) |

RE: Cumfybus
I visited Cumfybus' new Atherton Road depot in Aintree on Friday. To be honest, it appears to be smaller than I expected it to be - can't see everything being able to operate out of there, but there's only one way to find out... I took some photos there, anyway: http://www.flickr.com/photos/michael2770...767041295/ Also, some photos of Cumfybus on the 133 and the 231: http://www.flickr.com/photos/michael2770...754668173/ View my new Flickr Updated! |
