I'm not familiar with the Oxford Road area in Manchester. Are there too many buses carrying too few passengers or is it that there is a demand for bus services that cannot be met? If it's the latter, then the new Manchester mayor, when elected, should introduce congestion charging for private motorists as exists in London. IIRC a referendum a few years ago voted against this proposal but turkeys rarely vote for Christmas.

Sadly not 'just' yet. The MEN idiotically did two news articles about how no fines are being applied to motorists who use this section of road until they make the signage more clear and finish the ever-ongoing roadworks. This means that several motorists are still trying to use Oxford Road however the road isn't long enough for two buses to pass on another in parts so at peak times it is literally chaos.

Not to mention they haven't even started on the bit between RNCM to Oxford Rd (and I would honestly not be surprised if City Council don't plan to do so until the students start leaving uni again around December).

If you read the above comments, the ex-Managing director of Stagecoach Merseyside and South Lancs has been 'promoted/transferred' to a new role at Manchester.

A statement was mentioned regarding Oxford Rd, followed by a question, followed by a further comment.

"... and that's what you missed on glee."

Apparently it was her idea to get the MMCs at Gillmoss so there has been improvements

However, what I hadn't remembered was that when she was at Manchester, she was Ops Director. That *should* auger well for the future back in Manchester.......unless she is going to be brainwashed into the new order of; "Once the bus leaves Manchester (or Salford/Trafford) and crosses into Stockport or Tameside, we don't care about punctuality".

Therefore, I was wondering how ops in M&SL have changed since she arrived five years ago. I know things are different in so far as, you don't have "Two Tribes" competition - shouldn't need to explain that to any Merseysiders (lol) - and Birkenhead only arrived from First half way through her reign, but have trendy city areas benefited at the expense of traditional, low car-ownership suburbs as has happened here or is a Birkenhead pound still worth the same as a Liverpool pound?

The fleet profile has improved greatly over the past five years both at GM and RF as has general levels of service and punctuality. GM's operations mainly serve low car-ownership areas to the east (Huyton) and north-east of Liverpool (Kirkby). GM's flagship route is the 86 and this is shared with Arriva. To be fair, the recent influx of the 65 plate MMC's can be found on most routes with the exception of the 20/21 and 53.

As with most things on Merseyside, the divide between Birkenhead and Liverpool is much greater than a mile-wide river.

It did strike me in Liverpool last Saturday how modern the fleet at GM is. I saw a 56-reg Enviro 400, but most buses were 59-reg or newer. I don't recall even seeing a Pointer on any city centre routes!

A few pointers moved to Chester for the emergencies. Idk how many they had but that could be the reason.
