RE: First Manchester
I know from a reliable source that outside London, Oldham Depot is amongst the top five most profitable depots in the UK, so it is hardly surprising that our area gets good treatment Thanks, Liam Moskwin. http://www.flickr.com/photos/transportandtreasures/ |

RE: First Manchester
No shocks there. Many FirstGroup fleets have primarily step-enterance-Darts and Olympians for regular services, but Oldham has a very fresh fleet and obviously for a good reason. Not to mention a monopoly position and in a dense urban area that connects onto a greater city network. Hopefully this will encourage more services, Oldham is not connected to Salford, or the Trafford Centre at all (neither is Bury, or Rochdale, or Middleton) that is a clear gap that could be filled. |

One of the main reasons that Oldham is do profitable is because First practically eradicated any route that wasn't up to scratch on profits, ie 58 to Trafford Centre, 52 to Salford, etc. There just isn't enough punters for it to be viable, and as one passenger of public transport daily I know I eould rather catch more frequent connections into the City Centre than wait around for a bus that isn't due for the next 30 minutes. The problem is this - high frequency equates to more passengers, however high frequency routes released quickly and people don't know the route so don't take it, meaning lowered frequency meaning less passengers again, meaning demise of route.
