As I posted earlier in the month (#232), if the service operates for under 6 weeks with no stops 15 miles from each other and has a single standard fare (not including recessionary discount), it does NOT have to be registered as it is classed as an excursion. If the service operated any longer than 6 consecutive weeks, the route HAS to be registered regardless of stopping points, fare collection or whether it was registered or not in the first place.

The service will not be operating after Christmas, because the company would be be liable for investigation under the traffic commissioner, and could potentially lose it's operating license and be fined accordingly. Most operators will register excursions as a safety-net to prevent this, and also because it's more of a 'loop-hole'.

So thier basically exploting a loophole not registering it?
Obviously they want to avoid registering it as they wouldn't be able to just drop journeys or pull the service early etc?

Out of interests as it currently stands if Catch22/Oakwood suspended the service for a week between Christmas and new year would they then be able to operate it for another 6 weeks without any hassle??
