I think it's probably for the best. Pietersen simply cannot grind out an innings, something England desperately needed him to do throughout the Ashes. He's been a divisive force throughout his England career and a real overhaul of the team is needed now. Of course, it would be completely unfair to make him a scapegoat for what was an atrocious tour in Australia. Sure, the Aussies played out of their skin and all the credit in the world to them for that, but England didn't half help their cause at times with callow batting and lacklustre bowling.
