Southport Corporation Transport, Spring 1969 timetable. There was potential for confusion, especially for visitors, in that some routes had different numbers, dependent on the direction of travel. For example, 2 was Halsall Road - Marshside, but it was 4 in the reverse direction. The system was later simplified (see below)

First, Spring 1969. All routes via Southport town centre unless otherwise stated).

2. Halsall Road (Guildford Rd.) - Marshside (Fairhaven Rd.)
4. Marshside - Halsall Road

3. Guildford Road (Halsall Rd. ) - High Park (Moss Lane)
16. High Park - Guildford Road.

Some buses on 4 ran to Guildford Road and then continued as 3 to High Park, but rebooking was necessary. Likewise with 16 & 2 in the reverse direction.

5. Blowick Hart St. - Kew or Portland Street.

7. Ainsdale or Carr Lane - Russell Road
8. Russell Road - Guildford Road or Carr Lane / Ainsdale / Woodvale.

9. Ainsdale or Liverpool Road - Crossens (Plough Hotel)
14. Crossens Plough Hotel - Liverpool Road or Ainsdale Station.

10. Monument - Preston New Road - Crossens Plough Hotel.
Buses from Crossens show 10 (Monument), 11 (Woodvale), 12 (Ainsdale) or 13 (Ainsdale Beach)

11. Monument - Hillside - Woodvale.
Buses from Woodvale show 11 (Monument) or 10 (Preston new Road)

12/13. Monument - Ainsdale Pinfold Estate (12) or Ainsdale Beach (13)
Buses from Ainsdale show 12/13 (Monument), 17 (Balmoral Drive) or 18 (North Road)

17. Circular, Monument - Golf House - Balmoral Drive - Preston New Rd. - Monument.
19. Circular, opposite direction to 17.
Some buses continue beyond Monument to Woodvale (11), Ainsdale (12), Ainsdale Beach (13).

15. Forest Road (Haigh Avenue) - Clive Road.

18. Monument - Churchtown (Little Cambridge Rd) or Balmoral Drive (North Road)

The timetable book also contained fare tables. Typical fares were Crossens to Monument 9d. (just under 4p) and Woodvale to Monument 10d (just over 4p). The maximum fare anywhere was 1s 3d. (just over 6p) from Churchtown to Woodvale (Easedale Drive)


In later changes, according to an Omnibus Society supplement from 1973, the same number usually applied in both directions, and there were:

17. North Road - Preston New Road - Woodvale
19. North Road - Balmoral Drive - Woodvale
