The active travel measures were being pushed by central government even before the pandemic and local councils were told to introduce such measures without any advance warning. Many dual carriageways in the Liverpool area have been reduced to single lanes to enable several pop-up bicycle lanes which, incidentally are barely used. Consequently, there is is now a lot of congestion that is having a serious impact on all traffic especially bus operation in and around the city.
