This started with the temporary timetables to up the frequency into Birkenhead but some rumors have been flying about saying cross river wasn't covering it's costs so the X1 via Birkenhead was kept to try and get more revenue.

As general note, the 1/X1 timetable is not changing from the current temporary timetable. Not sure if times are temporary though as come November, they will surely want the buses back to full capacity for Cheshire Oaks.
