No, they were actual Arriva Merseyside buses, they had the legal lettering (in yellow) to prove it. They were a transfer from Arriva Southern Counties, as you say, but they never operated in Liverpool for Arriva. Poor replacements for the R-reg Olympians, but GTL couldn't afford the repayments. The Metrobuses spent a lot of time driving around the yard in circles at Gillmoss before GTL took over.

Further investigation shows 3061 was present at GTL during July 2001, and it would be easy to assume it transferred from Arriva, but it was the first of many that came direct from Ensignbus. Well spotted.
