T think it might have been more complex in earlier times when there where semi-competing tram and trolley bus services which included more operators such as St Helens and Bolton.

I'm not sure exactly when my dad would have used them or for what journeys but he was born in Leigh in the late 20s and was living in another party of the country by the late 60s.
