Also with the service 2 the depot at Birkenhead was much too far away when things went wrong with the buses , whereas at the time first then Stagecoach had depots at Rock Ferry and Chester on the line of the route , the straw that broke the camels back was probably the introduction of the X8. I'd argue that the main faults with the 1/2/X2 for Arriva was pricing. People would wait for a stagecoach vehicle to come (every 10 to 20 minutes - depending on the inter-working) because the day, weekly and family tickets were much cheaper. With Stagecoach, you could travel from St Helens or Crossens all the way to Chester and beyond for £3.90, with Arriva, this would require the North West day ticket which they were selling for £5+. Although an extreme distance, the same would apply if you were travelling from Bromborough to Chester. Single fares were also cheaper on Stagecoach vehicles. However the benefit of this only really applies assuming that the passenger hasn't boarded another Arriva vehicle prior to boarding a 1/2/X2, but to counter that, Stagecoach paying passengers then also got the added benefit of the X8. |
