For the first few months of operation, the X8's loadings were not particularly impressive and there were rumours that Stagecoach were thinking of withdrawing the service. Two years on and it now has deckers on it, albeit only during the closure of of the Wirral line, and now there is talk of it getting its own dedicated new MMC 400's. This is exactly what happened when Stagecoach introduced the X2 Liverpool-Preston service about ten years ago. It's definitely a case of build it and they will come.
