Arriva North West - Birkenhead Depot
RE: Arriva North West - Birkenhead Depot
there is supposed to be a dedicated booth for larger vehicles (class 2 and above) in place for when the trains go off in the new year. it was tested for a few days a month or two ago. never saw it in action myself but the drivers i spoke to said it was the end booth in both directions and if cars were using them the supervisors were stopping them and waving the buses/lorries to go in front. they should of really tested it again when the birkenhead tunnel was closed the other weekend.

as said above there is little point in having a buses only booth on the wallasey tunnel as they are only every 10 minutes each way unlike the birkenhead were they are every couple of minutes

I do wonder whether the regular overnight closures once a week every four weeks that usually happen to the Birkenhead Tunnel will not take place during the first six weeks.

These normally apply from 2100 , but on match nights they start at 2300 until 0600 the following day.

It may be the case that there is only a bus every 10 minutes from Wallasey to Liverpool, but t may be quicker for the buses to go via the Birkenhead tunnel to get to Liverpool rather than be stuck in a que with everyone else.

Yes 1 bus every 10 minutes through the Kingsway, with an average of 1 bus every 45 seconds through the Queensway at peak time. As has been said, it would probably be quicker to go through the Queensway and scoot through the docks than to sit in congestion.

The Queensway Tunnel also has its fair share of congestion because the toll booths are in a fan and the entrance to the tunnel is very close to the the toll booths .

Then at the liverpool end that roundabout is a bit of a bugbear but not much can be done with that other than maybe have it traffic light controlled .

Problem is the 432/433 pick up/set down on Scotland Road-Leeds Street, & a few passengers use that stop for Cross River routes.

The suggestion that the Wallasey tunnel should have its own buses only booth is not without merit, certainly at peak times. Admittedly the current 432/3 service only provides a ten-minute frequency but the occasional 420 also uses that tunnel as do all other PCV's over a certain weight, which is most of them.

Also, if motorists were to see that buses have priority at peak times, it may well persuade some of them to make a modal shift. It's worth a try.

Wallasey Tunnel now has a tag booth for HGVs & Busses which speeds up going through the booths.
